Leopard Mounts
Go Back EnquireThe Leopard is one of Africa’s most recognisable and captivating predators. Its powerful build, beautifully patterned coat and commanding expression create a taxidermy mount with exceptional presence.
Leopards are remarkably adaptable and inhabit environments ranging from forests and wooded savannas to mountains, scrubland and semi-arid regions. Their strength, agility and ability to climb make trees and elevated resting places an important part of their natural behaviour. Animal Diversity Web
At Karoo Taxidermy, every Leopard mount is individually designed to preserve the animal’s distinctive character. Particular attention is given to facial anatomy, eye setting, ear position, whisker placement, musculature, paw detail and the natural flow of the spotted coat.
Leopard Mounting Options
Depending on the condition and availability of the specimen, suitable mounting options may include:
- Standing full mounts
- Walking or stalking full mounts
- Resting and lying full mounts
- Full-body wall displays
- Branch-mounted wall portraits
- Custom wall bases
- Natural habitat bases
- Predator-and-prey dioramas
- Flat skins
- Skull-bleached displays
- Bespoke trophy-room installations
The chosen pose and facial expression can dramatically influence the character of a Leopard mount. Options may range from a calm, watchful expression to an alert or open-mouth composition.
Creating Movement and Character
A Leopard mount should communicate more than anatomy alone. The curve of the body, position of the tail, placement of the paws and direction of the gaze all contribute to the finished composition.
Branch-mounted and custom wall displays reflect the Leopard’s natural climbing ability while using vertical trophy-room space effectively. Freestanding full mounts allow for more expansive habitat scenes and can depict the Leopard walking, stalking, resting or interacting with prey.
Predator-and-prey dioramas provide an opportunity to create a complete wildlife story. These compositions are individually designed around the available specimens, the intended display space and the client’s preferred level of movement and expression.
International Permits and Documentation
The Leopard is listed in CITES Appendix I, meaning that international movement is subject to strict permit and documentation requirements. CITES – Leopard
