The Common Eland is one of Africa's most impressive antelope species and the largest antelope in southern Africa. Despite its substantial size and powerful build, the eland is remarkably agile and is instantly recognisable by its long, spiralled horns, heavy body and characteristic dewlap.

Both males and females carry horns, although mature bulls typically develop a much heavier neck and prominent dewlap, with older bulls often displaying a darker coat and distinctive forehead tuft. Coat colour can vary considerably with age, sex and geographic population.

Its size and distinctive features make the Common Eland an exceptional taxidermy specimen.
