King Wildebeest
Go Back EnquireThe King Wildebeest is one of the most striking colour variants of the Southern Blue Wildebeest. It is recognised by its dramatic contrast of dark grey, blue-black or brown body hair against a light cream or white face, mane, beard and tail.
Although visually distinctive, the King Wildebeest is not classified as a separate species or subspecies. It originated as a naturally occurring colour mutation within the Blue Wildebeest and retains the scientific classification Connochaetes taurinus taurinus. King Wildebeest breeders’ characteristics
Its unusual colouring makes the King Wildebeest exceptionally well suited to taxidermy. A shoulder mount showcases the pale facial markings and sweeping horns, while a full mount displays the contrasting coat, pale mane and distinctive body markings in their entirety.
