Ostrich Mounts
Go Back EnquireOstrich (Struthio camelus)
The Ostrich is the world’s largest living bird and one of Southern Africa’s most distinctive species. Its extraordinary height, powerful legs, long neck and dramatic plumage make it an unmistakable and highly impressive subject for taxidermy.
Karoo Taxidermy creates lifelike Ostrich full mounts in a variety of natural and expressive poses, from classic standing presentations to dramatic courtship displays. Ostrich trophies also offer remarkable scope for custom compositions, decorative eggshell art and luxury leather products crafted from the bird’s distinctive quill-patterned skin and textured shin leather.
Product information
Ostrich taxidermy requires specialist attention to the bird’s unusual proportions, delicate feather structure, long neck, facial expression and exposed skin colouring. Male Ostriches are particularly recognisable by their predominantly black plumage, contrasting white wing and tail feathers, and reddish colouring on the beak and legs during the breeding season.
Full mounts may be presented standing naturally, viewed from the front, or posed with raised wings to recreate the male’s elaborate courtship display. The large dimensions of an adult Ostrich should be considered when selecting the final stance, base and intended display area.
Ostrich trophies and materials may be used to create:
- Traditional standing full mounts
- Courtship or “dancing” full mounts
- Custom multi-species compositions
- Wall-mounted body-and-wing displays
- Engraved and illuminated eggshell décor
- Handbags, wallets, belts and other leather products
- Accessories crafted from distinctive Ostrich shin leather
The Ostrich egg may also be engraved, perforated or incorporated into bespoke lighting and display pieces. Custom compositions, carved eggs, specialist bases and combined-species mounts are separately quoted under Special Requests.
