Roan Mounts
Go Back EnquireRoan Antelope Taxidermy (Hippotragus equinus)
The Roan Antelope is one of Africa’s largest and most imposing antelope species. Named for its distinctive reddish-grey or roan-coloured coat, it is instantly recognisable by its bold black-and-white facial mask, long tufted ears and powerfully curved, ringed horns.
Strongly built and naturally confident, the Roan has a commanding presence. Its striking facial markings and sweeping horns create an appearance that is both elegant and formidable, making it an exceptional centrepiece in an African wildlife collection.
Creating an authentic Roan Antelope mount requires close attention to the species’ distinctive anatomy. The facial mask must be carefully aligned, the long ears correctly positioned, and the characteristic mane, coat texture and backward-curving horns accurately preserved. At Karoo Taxidermy, every Roan mount is individually shaped and finished to retain the animal’s powerful proportions, alert expression and unmistakable character.
The Roan lends itself beautifully to several presentation styles, including traditional shoulder mounts, sculptural wall portraits, pedestal mounts, half-body mounts and full mounts. It can also be incorporated into a custom pedestal bouquet or multi-species rockery display alongside other iconic African antelope.
Custom wooden bases, rockwork, habitat vegetation and decorative inserts can be added to complement the mount and create a display that is individually designed for the client’s trophy room.
