The Suni (Nesotragus moschatus, formerly Neotragus moschatus) occurs in the dense undergrowth and coastal forests of southeastern Africa. Its distribution extends from Kenya and Tanzania through Malawi and Mozambique to northeastern South Africa. Mammal Diversity Database
Standing only around 30–40 cm at the shoulder and weighing approximately 4–6 kg, the Suni is among the smallest antelope in Africa. Its coat can vary from greyish-brown to rich chestnut, with paler sides and white colouring along the chin, throat and underparts.
Male Suni carry relatively thick, black horns that are prominently ridged and angle backwards in line with the face. Females are hornless but share the species’ expressive eyes, large ears and distinctive dark facial glands. These features help distinguish the Suni from the similarly sized Steenbok.
